TREATMENT FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS

As per the Canadian and American Orthodontic Association, all children aged 7 years and older should be assessed by an Orthodontist to make sure tooth development is progressing properly (see link).  The initial evaluation will focus on detecting any crowding, cross-bite or over-bite. Early detection and interruption of certain habits such as thumb sucking is critical as it can adversely affect jaw growth and tooth alignment. Early orthodontic treatment could involve a removable or fixed appliance which acts to manipulate jaw growth and helps to create space to reduce crowding or preserves space for teeth that have yet to erupt. Early treatment, if indicated, may help reduce the amount of time your child requires braces later on.

Teens now have the option to undergo orthodontic treatment with Invisalign or traditional braces. Dr. Natoosha Nargaski will discuss these options and determine the appropriate treatment.

Adults

TREATMENT FOR ADULTS

Orthodontic treatment provides a significant functional and aesthetic benefit at any age! In adults, orthodontic treatment usually involves a team approach: the family dentist, periodontist and endodontist will collaborate with the orthodontist throughout orthodontic treatment.  For instance, before orthodontic treatment begins, the periodontist must confirm that your gums and surrounding bone around your teeth are healthy to ensure that orthodontic treatment can safely be done.

By eliminating crowding, orthodontic treatment helps to improve the longevity of your teeth by reducing the risk of gingivitis, periodontal disease, tooth decay and excessive wear.

Orthodontic treatment may also help your jaw function. By eliminating a bad bite, joint pain and headaches associated with the temporomandibular jaw joint may be decreased.

At the initial consultation, Dr. Natoosha Nargaski will discuss with you the various options available to straighten crooked teeth: metal braces, ceramic braces and Invisalign all work well. Ceramic braces are comfortable, esthetic, translucent and will not stain.

INVISALIGN

Dr. Natoosha Nargaski is a certified Invisalign provider and may discuss this option with you as an alternative to metal or ceramic braces. Invisalign treatment involves a series of clear retainers  that are created using 3D imaging technology, and can be used in sequence to slowly straighten your teeth. They are comfortable and easy to wear and no one will know you have them on! Invisalign retainers must be worn all day and all night throughout treatment except when eating and cleaning the appliances.
